Abundance: Is your glass half full or half empty?
by Nigel Taylor
Abundance and wealth inspire great debate across this planet. Understanding what one really does have is paramount to establishing the foundation for great growth and abundance in one’s life. To that end the title applies very appropriately.
Most probably you have heard this saying many, many times. Though well-worn, these words are so effective. They make us look at our attitude and way of seeing life, and this is a useful exercise.
A client once came to me for urgent assistance. She was set to lose a million dollar business within 24 hours and she wanted me to tell her, “All will be well.” Clearly, I couldn’t. She left angry and upset, feeling that her life was doomed.
Her emotional state was so deeply ingrained in the fear of the potential loss that she failed to see the other half of the equation. Or, for that matter, what was in the glass!
Within 36 hours her business was solvent. A concerned and valuable silent partner arose to bail her out. You see, It’s all the viewpoint. She saw the problem ~ not the opportunity. He was always there, in the glass.
One of the key ways we learn how to be successful is by following successful people. It makes sense, right? And successful people know that 99% of the battle comes from our way of looking at the world. The most powerful trick, however, is not simply to learn their successful habits, but rather to learn from their errors. This is the key.
When I observe someone who I consider to be successful, I love to observe their attitude. Of course, hearing about their life can be motivating and enlightening, but I also make sure to ask about any challenges they overcame and the obstacles in their path. This is when you learn a lot.
I learned from my client that fear of loss depletes the soul. It makes you feel like you live in a hostile world. Instead, you want to live in a world that supports your success and well being.
Bouncing back from a glass half full attitude is so important. It is also helpful to learn about mistakes, because then you can avoid them! So many times I have sat down with someone who tells me about a mistake they made and I think, “Oh heck … I’m on the verge of doing that myself.” Learning from my own mistakes AND from others has helped me reach goals I never thought I’d attain.
And yes, that is what healing is all about. Learning from the mistakes we make but not dwelling on them nor making ourselves suffer as a result. So, relationship failures, career collapses, project failures are all initiations to take us into a higher place of knowing. When we accept that and let go of what could, should or needed to have been, then we can live in the moment. It is then that we are able to be objective and see things as they really are, leaving aside the subjective, emotional baggage of the past and projections of fear into a future unknown.
Here is a short video clip of Dr. Wayne Dyer with a few words that I hope will inspire you.
Please watch it. You will love it, even if you have seen him before. Listen to his message. You will know why I sent you.
